Weeks Four & Five
Camp Green Lane, PA!

Photos are beginning to trickle in from Camp
Green Lane, PA where the East Orange Unified Marching Band is
staying during their final week of Summer Band Camp. There is no
Internet access at the camp, so we are collecting photos one by
one as Mr. Goode e-mails them back to us from his iPhone. The
above photo shows one of the cabins at the camp and was received
about noon on 8/26/10.
Ms. Saez just returned from the camp to East
Orange to pick up some T-shirts and other items that had been
forgotten in the rush to get to camp on Wednesday. She reported
that the students were so excited about being at the camp that
they couldn't settle down and get to sleep last night, and some
had to do exercises to "tire them out."
Mr. Franklin has his camera and will be taking
photos that we will use to build up a complete picture story of
their stay at Camp Green Lane, but we won't be able to do so
until he returns on the 31st. Meanwhile, I've gotten a promise
that we will get at least one new e-mail photo from the camp
every day so you can see what's happening.

Camp's Web site. To make sense of what you see from the air and
on the hand drawn map, you may need to rotate the Google view, as
we have done here.

above, you will go to the interactive map on their Web site and
you can click on some of the buildings to see photos of what's
inside. That will have to hold you until we begin to get more
e-mail photos from our photographers inside the camp!

Two More Photos Just In!

As you can see from the two
photos e-mailed to us from Ms Saez, the students have discovered
the joy of having their own pool to swim in after exercising and
marching in the afternoon heat. The weather in Pennsylvania is
pretty much like the weather we are having here... gorgeous, but
hot! I can see Mr. Franklin taking photos on the far side of the
pool in the bottom photo, so I know when he gets back, we'll have
plenty of pictures to show you. For now we have to take their
photos e-mailed from cellphones, one by one, in their spare time.

The band is able to find plenty of space on Camp
Green Lane's large playing fields to practice their marching and
playing without interruption.

After the cramped conditions of practicing in
the limited space of Cicely Tyson's Parking lot, the band finds
out what it is like to march and practice on a real regulation
sized football field.

The band has a video camera with them so when
they get back, we'll be able to both see and hear how much the
practice at Camp Green Lane has improved their music playing to
get them ready for September's football game shows.
