Ms Saez
supervised the band parents and the dancers in preparing lunches
and putting them in bags on the bus. The students will eat the
lunches later, when they arrive in Delaware.
The Band arrived at Delaware
State University and started to unpack the bus and get into block
formation. Later, they will go to Salesianum High School for the
game, but for now they are guests of the University's band and
music department.
The three drum majors from East
Orange meet with the drum major from DSU (name unknown). (L-R:
DSU Drum Major, Allan Theodore, Natalie Tomlinson, Shakquel

Inside the band room of DSU, Mr.
Randolph J. Johnson, the band director, welcomes the East Orange
Band to his band room and to the University. East Orange Unified
Band has several alumni attending college at DSU and the Band
Director looks forward to seeing more of our seniors attend the
college next year. Remember when DSU came to Cicely
Tyson last Spring? They'll be back!
Two of the dancers from the DSU
marching band talked to the dancers from East Orange about what
they have to do to become a dancer at DSU. They also talked about
the difference between college dancing and high school dancing.
Back in the band room the East
Orange Band practiced a few of the numbers they were planning for
their evening show and the DSU band director gave them a few
helpful tips and words of encouragement.

The most happy person to be at
DSU was Mr. Goode, who was happy to see his former students who
are now attending the college, as well as his colleagues in the
DSU band, and happy to be able to take his current Band students
to show them what might lie ahead for easch of them that wants to
go to college someday. You can see his happiness in this photo
sent to us by one of his former teachers.
DSU band members
showed their new friends from the EO Band part of their field
show. As EO watched DSU, they took mental notes on how they
march, and play, and what the differences and similarities are.
The staff of both bands took time
off for me to take a picture of them before the band had to get
back on the bus and head out for dinner. (L-R: Mr. Chester Knapp-
DSU Staff, Frederick Goode - Band Director of the East Orange
Unified Marching Band, Mr. Randolph J. Johnson- Director of Band
at Delaware State University , Ms Jacqueline Saez - East Orange
Band Parent Association President and Moderator of Dancers and
Honor Guard)
After dinner the band arrived at
Salesianum High School stadium and marched into the stands. They
arrived too late to perform an opening show, so they saved the
show for later.
As mentioned above, the Band was
late so they couldn't perform before the game, but they had a
chance to finally perform their half time show after the game was
over and the field was clear. The stands in the back would be
where people from East Orange would be sitting if they had come
with us to Delaware, and as you can see, only a few band parents
and football parents are back there for our side. The rest are
behind us in the photo and video.
