West Side High School
East Orange Campus High
at West Side High School, Newark, NJ
Friday afternoon, when school is
over for the day, the band gets in one last rehearsal before the
night game with West Side High school. They practice from 4:00 PM
to 5:00 PM and just as practice is over, Mr. Goode presents
elected Drum Major Allan Theodore with his official Mace, the
symbol of his authority to lead the band. You may recall that
Allan was one of three candidates who competed for the position
at Camp Greenlane in August.
It's late and the students have
to change into their uniforms and be at West Side High School by
7:00 PM. Thanks to Dr. Cowan, Cicely Tyson School Principal, who
organized a dinner for the students so they got a hot meal and a
few moments to relax before going back to work representing their
schools and supporting the East Orange Jaguars at the game.
When they get off the buses at West Side High
School's shared stadium, the students are curious to see how many
other residents of East Orange have come out to support their
team in this important first game of the season.
It is twilight as the game begins, and the
students let everyone know they have arrived with their first
music performance of the evening. You can see several samples of
the music they played in the video below.
Although the game is not quite over, these
students are tired and ready to march back to the bus for the
trip back to Cicely Tyson School. They'll repeat the same
schedule next Friday at Columbia
High School in Maplewood.
Final Score: East Orange
Campus High 49** - West Side High School 0 **
