Because Guyana is considered part
of the Caribbean Community of Nations, many other flags of Caribbean countries from East Orange residents who are proud of their
Caribbean ancestry were also on display. June is the month of
Caribbean festivals locally, and I expect we will see them on
display again very soon.
Our reason for covering this
event was because the East Orange Unified Marching Band had been
asked to participate and they were all there, including Natalie Tomlinson in the
wheelchair, recovering from a broken foot sports injury, but
still eager to play her Baritone horn with her Band. The Band
played the Star Spangled Banner, our own USA National
Anthem, followed by the Guyana National Anthem.
I am sure the City of East Orange
and the other local newspapers and photographers that cover these
events will explain the rest of the program that followed, since
our main focus is our Unified Marching Band.
