Saturday June 11th, 2001. It was
a rainy day, that turned into a rainy night. All the other band
activities were cancelled, but not Music Under the Stars.
Even though you couldn't see the stars in the sky, the stars
appeared on stage in the 400 seat Theatre of Cicely Tyson
Community School.

There was a magic show to start
things off, given by the Wiz Kids who share Frederick Goode as
their director as well as the band director. Mr. Goode explained
the Mission of The Wiz Kids, Inc, and showed everyone the first
magic trick he had learned as a new Wiz Kid back in the 1980's -
the Torn and Restored Napkin. Later in the show, Mr.
Good performed one of his favorite Wiz Kid tricks that was
invented by former Wiz Kid Director, Jim Gerrish - The One
and Only Polisher of Sneakers or O.O.P.S! The young
lady's sneaker was burnt to a crisp, but magically restored in
the end by Mr. Goode.

The young star of the Wiz Kid
magic show was Wiz Kid Qua-Fiki. We had planned to have more
young Wiz Kids perform on the show, but the weather thwarted our
plans. Qua-Fiki (the stage name of our photographer Al-Quadir
Marsh), performed one of his escapes, floated Mariah Tomlinson in
the air, and performed one of his own magic inventions known as
the "Bigger Box." He also allowed Fred Good and Jim
Gerrish to try to chop off his head, but the blade just passed
harmlessly through his neck.

The concert itself began with
musical selections by Melodies of Praise. The best way
to appreciate this group is by hearing them perform, so see the
video below.
Here are a few of the stars who came out to
shine that rainy night. If any Band Parents took photos they
would like to share with us on this page, remember, this is YOUR
Band Parent's Web site. E-mail your photos of the event to fredgoode@gmail.com.
Be sure to include a note in your e-mail identifying the stars in
your photo.

themselves in any of these photos and we don't have your name
under the photo, you can also e-mail fredgoode@gmail.com and identify in which photo you appear and how to
locate you in that photo, and we'll be happy to add your name.
This is YOUR Web site, too!
