Auditions for Prairie View A&M University
After a nationwide search, Dr. Timothy Zachery was chosen to
head the Prairie View A&M University Marching Storm Band in
July of 2012.
Dr. Zachery is tasked with enhancing the Marching Storms
national reputation and shaping students, both academically and
socially, while pushing them to higher levels of music
A native of Alexandria, Louisiana, Tim Zachery hails from a
background that is filled with music. He began playing the
trumpet as a grade school student and went on to play with the
Southern University Marching Band. He later earned his
bachelors and masters degrees from Norfolk State
University and his Doctor of Music Arts degree from Indiana
Tim Zachery is focused on giving his inner hope and love of music
into as many young people as possible. In the spirit of a middle
school teacher that set him straight so many years ago, Tim
awakens every day charged with the responsibility of changing
lives through his dedication to education and excellence, not
just in performance, but also in life.
His quest will bring him to East Orange, New Jersey, on January
31, 2013, where he will review the East Orange Unified Marching
Band (E.O.U.M.B.) under the direction of Mr. Frederick Goode.
Students will have the opportunity to audition for acceptance to
the Prairie View A&M Universitys music department. Some
students will have the opportunity to receive both music as well
as academic scholarships upon Dr. Zachary's recommendations.
Former Drum Major of our Band, Bria Douglas of East Orange,
is currently attending Prairie View A&M University on a music
scholarship. She continues to serve as an ambassador for the
E.O.U.M.B. One of Brias former instructors, Ms. Syreeta
Thompson, who currently works with the Marching Band, is a former
class mate of Dr. Zachery, and has recommended that all of our
students take a closer look at Prairie View, as she holds Dr.
Zachery in the highest regards for furthering education.
Auditions will take place on 1/31/13 in the band room at The
Cicely L. Tyson Community School of Performing and Fine Arts, 35
Winans Street, East Orange, New Jersey.
